Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy, also commonly known as SASTRA University, is a private and deemed university located in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. The university was the first-ever to get the status of a deemed university in Tamil Nadu. SASTRA was conferred deemed-to-be-university status in 2001 by the UGC. The university also has an off-campus at Kumbakonam, Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre (SRC). SASTRA University has been accredited by NAAC with an “A++” grade. The university is recognised by UGC and approved by AICTE. SASTRA University offers a total of 12 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels of education. According to the NIRF past ranking, SASTRA University placed 34th in the engineering category, 15th in the legal category, 26th in the university category, and 49th overall. Last year, in the World Rankings and the Asia University Rankings, SASTRA University had bagged a commendable ranking among the private universities in India.
