Government College of Engineering Salem is one of the premier engineering institutes affiliated to Anna University. It was established in the year 1996 and is the third engineering institute of Tamil Nadu. The college offers 6 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate programmes. All the courses of the college are approved by AICTE. GCE is a recognized centre for research under Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S. courses.  GCE Salem is supported by World Bank Financial Assistance. The support from the World Bank helps the college to maintain quality education and introduce new learning facilities. The college is also one of the participating institutions in Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) program which is offered by the Department of Higher Education, MHRD, and Government of India. For admission to UG and PG courses at the college, candidates must have to appear in the entrance exam. The placement record of GCE has witnessed positive growth since the past few years. The placement cell of the institute organises mock tests, interview sessions, training programs and conferences for the students to prepare them well before the placement season. Some of the top companies that participate in campus placement are Accenture, Tech. Mahindra, Titan, Hyundai, Mahindra, TCH, HCL, Infotech, etc.  The GCE campus is spread in the sprawling area of 400 acres surrounded by hills and lush green areas. The college offers various facilities such as sports, library, computer lab, Wi-Fi, transportation facilities, etc.
