The university was formerly the campus of Gauhati University in Kokrajhar, which was later established as a state university in itself. The University aims at providing education and development to students by overlooking all divisions based on caste, race, religion, etc. The institute provides educational and research scopes through theoretical and practical approaches to learning. The university aims to make BTAD (Bodoland Territorial Region of Assam) a research and education hub. The institution has also attracted international students for research work. Bodoland University courses at present offers M.A, M.Sc., M.C.A., M.B.A., M.Com., PhD, and Diploma as well as Bodoland University certification course.
