MDU Rohtak Maharshi Dayanand University initially known as Rohtak University, was established in 1976 after act 25 of 1975 of the Haryana legislative assembly. MDU Rohtak has been accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) with an A+ grade. It was renamed Maharshi Dayanand University in 1977 after the name of the great philosopher and social leader Maharshi Dayanand. On 16th March 1979, this university got recognition by University Grant Commissions. MDU secured 35th position in the pharmacy category and 96th position in the university category of NIRF Ranking 2023.MDU Rohtak offers admission to various diploma, postgraduate, undergraduate and doctoral programmes. Admission to the courses is determined by the results of a national-level examination, an interview, and counselling. For several MDU Rohtak courses admission, the university administers the MDU CEE entrance exam; however, for some programmes, admission is determined by merit.
