The Army Institute of Law Mohali was established in 1999 by the Indian Army under the Army Welfare Education Society. The institute was initially established in Patiala and shifted to its current location in Mohali in July 2003. AIL is affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala and is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI). It is also accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a B grade. The Army Institute of Law rankings by the NIRF 2022 are 26th out of the Top 30 institutes of India and 10th by India Today in the Top Emerging Colleges category. The Army Institute of Law course admissions are done in two courses namely BA LLB and LLM.
